![]() ![]() In reality, we use a wind vane, and even if we need the autopilot I have it connected to the wind vane and it draws a fraction of its "normal" power since it is rigged to replace the windvane indicator which requires almost no power to move (unlike moving a tiller or wheel). I would note that the max underway is based on use of an autopilot for the whole time with its normal rated draw. Previously, I had a max at anchor of 90 Ah/day and max underway of 180 Ah/day. That said, I will be doing the calculations before buying anything, just using the past equipment for the initial assessments and investigation so can't give you "real" hard numbers yet. We have two 8Ds for the house bank and a group 27 starting battery. I honestly haven't done a new power demand calculation since our last installation, figuring that both lighting and instruments (all of which are being replaced) use less power than our previous 2003 equipment so the battery bank and charging we had before should still be fine PLUS we didn't have solar panels before, so had to occasionally (every week or two) use engine charging. The intent is NOT to have to use the engine for routine charging this time. We have never been big on marinas and will mostly anchor out. We will be living aboard while cruising for the next couple of years (at least one year, probably not more than three years), with wind generator and solar panels sized so they should provide most of the charging demand. Lower current resistance separators improve current flow for faster startsĬore charge will apply to battery purchase if an old 12V battery is not exchanged at the time of purchase.Safer to install and transport with no-spill design to prevent leaking acid.Superior electrolyte retention prevents dry out and acid leaks.Enhanced durability design to withstand wear of extended cycling service. ![]() Shock-absorbing glass mat separators resist vibration and damage that can shorten the life of a battery 20 times more vibration resistant than flooded batteries for wave-pounding protection.Dual Purpose batteries deliver high starting and moderate deep cycle power Ideal for boaters who want high cranking power plus dependable power for power-hungry electronic accessories.Nearly all of the plastics, lead and acid are recycled, so our batteries are great for your boat and the environment. East Penn’s award winning factory leads the industry in closed loop and sustainable practices. Each battery receives over 250 quality control checks to guarantee consistent and superior performance. for West Marine by East Penn, one of the most reputable battery companies in the country. AGM batteries are safer to operate than conventional flooded batteries, as the chance of explosion or acid spray is reduced which allow them to be installed in almost any location and any position (except upside-down). The spill-proof, valve-regulated design eliminates acid spills and terminal corrosion. They charge more quickly than conventional batteries and have low 3% monthly self-discharge rates. ![]() They’re more rugged, accept higher charging current, are sealed, safer and submersible.ĪGM Batteries are great in both deep cycle and starting applications. Replace your flooded batteries with Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. ![]()
